The opportunity
Better Society Capital is currently re-organising its operational infrastructure for the next phase of the organisation’s strategic development.
This newly created role brings the opportunity to shape and manage critical functions within BSC’s recently established Middle Office.
With responsibility for a small team, the Senior Risk, Reporting and Valuations Manager will have a broad range of responsibilities which are central to the success of BSC. The core responsibilities are managing the investment valuation and forecasting process for a diverse portfolio of social impact investments and monitoring and assessing some of BSC’s key risks.

What you will do
Provide a self-starter mentality and be willing to help establish a Middle Office and build up its processes from scratch, including being involved in procurement of the key portfolio management system. Over time manage a small, dedicated team that will be responsible for:
- Managing the periodic investment valuation process, ensuring valuations are fairly assessed (to involve critiquing manager-supplied valuations and exercising judgement on overlay)
- Overseeing cyclical financial performance reporting and providing commentary thereon
- Maintaining relevant elements of the corporate risk framework
- Key involvement in investment and corporate forecasting workstream, working alongside investment and finance teams
- Critical project work, with, for example, significant involvement in the implementation of a new portfolio management system

What you will bring
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- Experience of working in a middle office, preferably within an investment company
- Experience of team leadership and delivery
- Skilled at working closely with investment and finance professionals
- Familiar with risk management practices
- A passion and demonstrable commitment to improving lives in the UK
Desirable:
- Qualified professional (e.g., accountant, CFA) with experience of fund finance / private assets and associated tax aspects
- Experience of different approaches to valuing private unlisted assets

- An interest in social impact and/or evidence of voluntary involvement with charities/social enterprises

Location: We are a UK-based business with an office in the Old Street area of London, accessible via a number of public transport links.
