ESG, EDI and Impact Manager

Contract: Full-time, 12 month Fixed Term Contract

Location: Hybrid: London (EC1Y) / homeworking

Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 pa

  • The opportunity

    This is an exciting opportunity to join our team on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract and play a key role in advancing our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), and broader impact agenda during a period of parental leave cover. You’ll take on a varied and rewarding role including working across new and portfolio investments, strengthening our data and reporting environment, and contributing to the continued evolution of our impact practice.

    This position is ideal for someone with experience in ESG and/or EDI delivery who is looking to deepen or broaden their expertise within the dynamic field of social impact investing. As we enter a new strategic phase at BSC and transition toward becoming a tech-first organisation, you’ll have the opportunity to help shape and enhance our established ESG, EDI and impact frameworks for the future.

  • What you will do

    Lead ESG and EDI analysis and monitoring for new and portfolio investments, including:

    • Leading ESG and EDI analysis for new investments across property, lending and venture investments, working with deal teams and engaging with fund managers.
    • Presenting ESG and EDI analysis and any key actions to BSC’s Investment Committee via our decision paper and contribute to the discussion where questions arise from Investment Committee members.
    • Undertake ESG and EDI analysis for priority historic portfolio investments to establish a consistent baseline understanding across our portfolio.

    Support the development of our ESG, EDI and Impact approach, including:

    • Supporting the continuous improvement and implementation of our ESG and EDI data approach for our Social Impact Investment Portfolio and Treasury Portfolio, led by BSC’s Head of Data.
    • Support the development of our ESG monitoring approach for our Treasury Portfolio, led by Head of Investment Management and Investment Director, Treasury and Portfolio.
    • Lead the development of our Engagement approach including designing toolkits with deal leads and establishing effective monitoring processes.
    • Lead the development of our Governance Due Diligence approach.
    • Support on the development of our wider impact management approach as required and of interest to the role holder to support their learning and development.

    Support the delivery of key disclosures, reporting and re-certification, including:

    • Lead the delivery of key ESG disclosures for BSC including our Principles for Responsible Investment, Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and annual EDI survey with managers.
    • Lead the delivery of key ESG and regulatory disclosures for our client product, SBSI, including TCFD and Sustainability Disclosure Requirements (SDR) reporting.
    • Support BSC’s BCorp recertification process.

    Support the delivery of internal and external working groups, including:  

    • Internal working groups such as the EDI Investment and Portfolio Action Group, EDI People and Culture Action Group, and EDI Steering Group
    • External forums such as the Diversity Forum, ventureESG, DiversityVC and BVCA DEI Taskforce.
  • Qualifications & Experience

    Essential

    • Demonstrable commitment to improving lives in the UK
    • Demonstrable experience of ESG and/or EDI analysis of investments
    • Demonstrable experience of stakeholder management and strong interpersonal skills
    • Proven project management skills
    • Experience using data and technology to enable effective delivery of ESG, EDI and/or impact management.

    Desirable

    • Experience in the financial, charitable or public sectors
    • Experience of impact management, preferably in the context of impact investing
    • Experience or knowledge of regulatory sustainability frameworks, such as TCFD and SDR, and sustainability reporting frameworks, such as PRI
    • Experience of corporate sustainability, preferably in small to medium organisations
