  • Challenge

Elderly people and those living with dementia often end up moving to a care home to receive 24-hour care, yet many would prefer to stay in their own home for as long as possible to be near loved ones. The familiar environment, close proximity to friends and family, and sense of independence are beneficial for health and wellbeing.

  • Approach

Hometouch connects people with live-in home carers, offering an affordable alternative to a care home whilst helping people remain in their own homes. Care packages are tailored to individual needs and are designed to help promote brain health in later life.

  • Revenue model

The service is commissioned by local authorities, NHS trusts and private healthcare providers. Hometouch also offers services direct-to-consumers.

  • Impact

Hometouch supports over 1,000 families with round-the- clock tailored patient care, delivered by over 500 vetted carers, helping more people stay in their own home.

  • There has been unprecedented surge in demand for health and social care services in response to coronavirus. Where possible, hospitals are discharging patients to increase bed capacity and unfortunately care homes have struggled to control the spread of the virus. Over time, more people will be seeking alternatives.

  • Hometouch is well poised to respond through its existing delivery model. It has carers across the country available to deliver live-in care where the risk of cross infection is significantly lower than in care homes as the patient and carer can self-isolate together.
