The challenge
There is a chronic shortage of affordable housing in the UK, which severely affects vulnerable and disadvantaged groups such as people at risk of homelessness, people with learning disabilities and vulnerable older people.
Our approach
We seeded the first social property fund to provide more equity-like capital to tackle a tough social issue that requires large amounts of capital. The fund was also designed to attract new investors to social impact investment.
The fund
The Fund buys and develops homes, leasing them to housing associations, charities and local authorities that deliver affordable housing for people on low incomes, supported housing for people with disabilities and accommodation for people experiencing homelessness. The fund works with a social impact partner, NPC, who sit on Cheyne’s investment committee.
