The challenge

A social housing shortfall is resulting in over 170,000 children living in temporary accommodation in England, the highest figure since records began. There is also an increasing number of older people who need care and suitable housing in the UK.

Meanwhile, building new homes has become increasingly challenging due to rising costs and a housing association sector under pressure to focus its resources on improving existing stock.

Our approach

We invest in social property funds that aim to attract institutional capital at scale to unlock new, affordable housing supply.

The fund

The fund provides equity-like capital to build and buy affordable homes. It has financed 880 homes so far, providing homes to approximately 1,600 people. The properties are managed by mid-sized housing associations enabling them to reach a greater number of individuals in need of a home.
