The challenge
There is a shortage of safe, stable accommodation and relevant support networks for people living in ‘non-decent’ accommodation and for those at risk of homelessness in the UK. Furthermore, charities that wish to buy property to support these individuals face barriers to doing so, such as having enough cash for deposits.
The approach
Social and Sustainable Capital worked closely with several charities to co-develop a financing structure that addresses some of the barriers they face when trying to buy property, enabling them to support more individuals.
The fund
The Fund aims to increase the scale and quality of housing provision by providing finance for social enterprises and charities with a track record of delivering support and managing property. These organisations generate positive social outcomes by providing support services, alongside housing, to people such as those fleeing domestic abuse, people experiencing homelessness and prison leavers.
